STOPit flyer
SSES has launched the new STOPit program for student safety and support.

On the website this information is available in several locations. If you go to PARENTS/STUDENTS, right above the rotating pics, the dropdown menu has a category 3 steps down as STOPit. If you click on that several informational brochures highlight the support offered.

Also, on the TABS on the side show a stop sign. If you click on that, there are QR codes for downloading the mobile app.

This is an exciting program both for parents & students. Please take this opportunity to become familiar with all it has to offer.

A New Generation of Rebar

One Massachusetts startup is changing the rebar game with a new stainless steel cladding process.
If you see a concrete structure of any kind, be it a building, road, or maybe piece of art, in all likelihood it’s supported by rebar. While there are a few varieties of steel rebar, from the standard steel to epoxy coated, they all suffer from corrosion issues.

Two doctoral graduates from MIT launched a startup called Allium Engineering a few years ago that’s taking aim at that issue by manufacturing steel that’s able to resist corrosion through an innovative stainless steel cladding process. The company says this technology can more than triple the lifetime of key infrastructure such as bridges, which would allow for significant cuts to steel and concrete production, two of the largest carbon dioxide emitting industries.

To share more about Allium, how the company got started and the technology behind it, Allium’s co-founder and CTO Sam McAlpine stopped by for a chat with ASME TechCast.

SSES Guest Speaker Series: DR. GIHAN GAMAGE

The students at Sacramento School of Engineering & Science were treated to our guest speaker, Dr. Gihan Gamage, from NMSU-A. Dr. Gamage is an Assistant Professor of Astronomy and Physics and earned his Ph.D. from the University of North Dakota. His doctoral thesis was on “Multi-Wavelength Analysis of Star Formation in Galaxy Clusters.”

Dr Gamage has also been a lecturer in the Launch Pad lecture series at the New Mexico Space Museum in Alamogordo, NM.

His presentation was on “Light and Astronomers.” This was a real opportunity for the students to learn more about our sun, Earth and its effects with an opportunity to ask questions.

Thank you, Dr Gamage for taking your time to share with our students and participating in our Guest Lecture Series.

🎮✏️ Lunchtime = game time!
Some of our STEM HS crew enjoyed playing video games with our awesome math teacher, Mr. Miyoshi, while others had fun drawing and guessing in Pictionary. A great way to relax and recharge before heading back to class! 💡
