Sacramento School of Engineering & Science announces the retirement of Kerry Miyoshi, Math teacher, Coach of the Phenoms Robotics Team, and the Scorpions eSports Team.
Mr. Miyoshi has been a valued educator in all areas of Math and Science, but his career extends far beyond the classroom. He has worked in computer systems programming and analysis, geological engineering, production, and consulting. He served as a Geology and Computer Information Systems Instructor at Eastern New Mexico University in Ruidoso, teaching Physical, Historical, and Environmental Geology. His professional background also includes work as a correspondent and photojournalist for the Cedar Valley Daily Times in Vinton, Iowa, and oversight and installation of the Schlumberger Sonic device on the USS Dallas for underwater mapping.
In addition to his expertise in geology and computer systemsāhaving worked with Chevron and multiple exploration, production, and analysis companiesāMr. Miyoshiās achievements are too numerous to fully list. Yet he is the first to say, āI have had many careers throughout my life, but teaching is the most spiritually fulfilling.ā
Throughout his career, he has been deeply involved in Science education, serving as Department Head at APS, teaching all levels of Math, guiding Engineering Design, coaching eSports and Robotics, and supporting students as a TSA coach.

As Coach of the Phenoms Robotics Team, Mr. Miyoshi led the team to a Second-Place finish in Waco and a First-Place finish in Amarillo. After competing in Houston, the Phenoms ranked 54th out of 181 teams in the FIT Championship of the FIRST Robotics Competition and earned multiple awards along the way.
SSES is sad to see Mr. Miyoshi retire. He has been an integral part of the charter schoolās inaugural year, shaping its programs, supporting its students, and leaving a lasting impact on our community. We will also miss his clever math and eSports shirts.
And yes, Kerryāevery day is now Friday. He plans to spend his wellādeserved retirement traveling and visiting family.
Thank you, Mr. Miyoshi, for everything you have done for our students, our teams, and our school.
