Sacramento School of Engineering & Science celebrates the talents and accomplishments of Kayla Telles, our Humanities teacher. Her latest mural commission located in Alamogordo, NM on 9th Street is displayed above.
Kayla is a Southern New Mexicoābased artist, educator, and creative force whose work blends punk, grunge, and surrealist influences into a style that is unmistakably her own. Through illustration, painting, character design, and largeāscale murals, she has developed a distinct visual language defined by sharp, expressive linework, bold exaggeration, and imagery that is at once playful, emotional, and deeply thoughtāprovoking. Her pieces balance raw feeling with humor and narrative, inviting viewers into imaginative worlds that challenge convention while remaining grounded in human experience. Curiosity, experimentation, and a commitment to meaningful connection drive her creative approach.

As a Humanities teacher at our charter high school, SSES, Kayla brings this same creative energy into the classroom. She encourages students to explore ideas, question assumptions, and express themselves through writing, discussion, and visual storytelling. Her teaching blends academic rigor with artistic imagination, helping students connect literature, history, and culture to their own lived experiences.
Beyond her personal practice and classroom work, Kayla is profoundly committed to community. Through collaborative projects and public art initiatives, she transforms shared ideas into accessible works that reflect the people and stories around her. Her murals serve not only as artistic expressions but as opportunities to build relationships, celebrate local identity, and create spaces where individuals feel seen and represented. As both an artist and an educator, she champions creativity as a powerful tool for selfāexpression, empowerment, and community engagement.
SSES is proud to have Kayla Telles as our Humanities teacher. If you have any art or mural project you would like to discuss with her, the contact information is below.
