Sacramento School of Engineering & Science (SSES) will host its first STEAM Carnival to showcase student-led, project-based learning and invite the public to see hands-on STEM work in action.
Event details
What: SSES STEAM Carnival — student-created launcher-and-target carnival games and project demonstrations
When: Friday, November 14, 2025, 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. (drop-in format)
Where: Sacramento School of Engineering & Science, 7035 US-54/70 Alamogordo, NM 88310, (North of Hwy 82), (575) 888-3421
Who: Open to the public; all students, families, and community members are welcome
What to expect
Students from SSES will display and present original, unassisted projects designed and built by student teams. Each project centers on launcher-target analysis and other STEAM concepts, demonstrating how curriculum across subjects is reinforced through coordinated, hands-on work.
Project-based study at SSES is designed as an education multiplier: teachers coordinate across subjects, so students apply math, science, engineering, art, and technology in real projects — a model not commonly available in traditionally structured schools.
Why it matters
The STEAM Carnival provides a chance for the community to tour the school, meet students and staff, and see firsthand the creative outcomes of project-based learning. Visitors will leave encouraged by the depth of student innovation and the practical skills students gain through interdisciplinary collaboration.
