Position: Secondary High School Teacher

Reports To: Director of Schools
Job Description
The Secondary Teacher at Sacramento School of Engineering and Science (SSES) is responsible for delivering engaging, STEM-focused instruction while fostering an environment that encourages critical thinking, problem-solving, and innovation. The teacher will implement a rigorous, project-based curriculum that integrates engineering and science principles to prepare students for future STEM careers.
Essential Responsibilities
Student Learning
Create an inclusive, student-centered classroom that supports diverse learning needs.
Apply principles of student growth, development, and learning to instructional planning.
Maintain a classroom culture that promotes positive student behavior and a safe, supportive learning environment.
Instruction
Demonstrate expertise in STEM content areas, aligning lessons with NM Standards and NGSS (Next Generation Science Standards).
Develop and implement hands-on, inquiry-based learning experiences that incorporate real-world applications.
Utilize a variety of teaching methods and technological resources to engage students.
Evaluate and track student progress regularly, using data to adjust instruction and provide support.
Support students in STEM-related competitions, projects, and research opportunities.
Collaborate with faculty to integrate interdisciplinary STEM learning across subjects.
Professionalism & Collaboration
Work collaboratively with colleagues, parents, and industry partners to enhance STEM education.
Participate in professional development to stay current with STEM instructional best practices.
Attend staff meetings, serve on committees, and contribute to school-wide initiatives.
Support and enforce school policies, student conduct guidelines, and safety protocols.
Maintain professional competence through ongoing education and self-directed learning.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Education, Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.
NM Teaching Credential in Science and/or Math and/or ELA and/or Social Studies (or willingness to seek credential during employment).
Experience in project-based learning, coding, robotics, engineering, or other STEM disciplines.
Strong ability to integrate technology and real-world applications into lesson planning.
Experience collaborating with industry partners, universities, or research organizations is a plus.
Conditions of Employment
Must comply with state and district certification requirements.
Completion of criminal background check and reference verification.
Evaluation
Performance will be evaluated by the School Director in accordance with district policies and professional teaching standards.
Salary & Work Schedule
Salary: Based on the Certified Instructor Salary Schedule. (See Draft Salary Schedule here.)
Work Year: 195.5 days
Work Hours: 7 hours per day.
